Delayed MTA "RECOVER", "MTA*NYCT PAYGO", or "OMNYPYG" charge on Alice Card
If you ride the NYC subway or bus, and you tap your phone or card to pay, you are using the OMNY payment system. OMNY usually charges your card for the fare right away.
Sometimes, OMNY cannot charge your card right away. When that happens, OMNY will try your card again later, and the charge will typically say one of: "MTA NYCT PAYGO RECOVER", "OMNYPYG", or "MTA*NYCT PAYGO".
When a delayed charge occurs, it means that one of these happened:
• The subway turnstile computers were slow or the bus didn't have reception. They let the customer into the subway/bus. OMNY ran the charge on the next day.
• OMNY's bank was slow to respond or was backed up. They let the customer into the subway/bus. OMNY ran the charge later.
• OMNY or the MTA were doing maintenance. They let the customer into the subway/bus. OMNY ran the charge when the maintenance was finished.
OMNY tries to run your charge right when a customer enters the subway or bus. For the reasons above, there might be a delay. Whenever a delay happens OMNY usually runs the charge the next day and puts RECOVER in the transaction description.
The timing of the charges may be confusing, but they are a normal part of how the MTA and OMNY systems operate.
When OMNY runs a RECOVER charge, you may need to tap your card again.
Sometimes OMNY will show an error message but still run a RECOVER charge. In that case you may see one of these messages, and you should try to tap again.

You can check your charge and ride history on the OMNY website:
- Go to https://omny.info/ and sign in, or register if you don't already have an account.
- When you've sign in, add your Alice Card if you haven't already. You can get its numbers from your Alice dashboard here: https://app.thisisalice.com/cards/alice.
-

Then you can review your Trips and Charges.
- If you click on Charges, you should see your recent charges.
-
You may see charges like this, for a ride that occurred on Feb 7 but was charged on Feb 12.

- If you still think such charges are incorrect, please contact OMNY support.

Delayed MTA/OMNY charges on Alice Card
Sometimes when you use your Alice Card for purchases with the MTA/OMNY, you may receive a message many hours after you rode the subway or bus.
For example:
- pay $2.90 for the subway at 9:00am on Monday
-
get a notification from Alice about your purchase at 6:00am the next morning
The reason for this is that MTA/OMNY will sometimes act as if your purchase has gone through, but only run the charge later.
If you get a notice that your card has been used, but it has been more than 48 hours since your last purchase, please let us know so we can investigate the charge.
Where can I learn more or ask questions?
Ask them "I used OMNY yesterday and I see the charge today, why did this happen?"
