Why does my Alice Card show a delayed OMNY RECOVER charge?

A charge labeled "MTA*NYCT PAYGO RECOVER", "OMNYPYG", or "MTA*NYCT PAYGO" is a normal delayed OMNY charge for a ride you already took. OMNY sometimes cannot charge your card at the turnstile and runs it later, usually the next day.

If you ride the NYC subway or bus and tap your phone or card to pay, you are using the OMNY payment system. OMNY usually charges your card for the fare right away.

Why the charge is delayed

A delayed charge means one of these happened:

• The turnstile or bus reader was slow or had no signal.
• OMNY's bank was slow to respond.
• OMNY or the MTA were doing maintenance.

In each case OMNY lets you ride and runs the charge later. OMNY usually runs it the next day and puts RECOVER in the transaction description. The timing can be confusing, but it is a normal part of how the MTA and OMNY systems operate.

If Alice notifies you about a charge but you have not ridden in more than 48 hours, contact us so we can investigate.

You may need to tap again

Sometimes OMNY shows an error message but still runs a RECOVER charge. If you see one of these messages, try to tap again.

Check your charge and ride history

1. Sign in to OMNY, or register if you don't already have an account.
2. When you've signed in, add your Alice Card if you haven't already. You can get its numbers from your Alice Card page.

3. Select Trips or Charges. Your account page looks like this:

   

4. Select Charges to see your recent charges.

5. Look for a charge dated a few days after the ride, like this one for a ride that occurred on Feb 7 but was charged on Feb 12:

   

6. If you still think a charge is incorrect, contact OMNY support.
