Delayed MTA "RECOVER", "MTA*NYCT PAYGO", or "OMNYPYG" charge on Alice Card

If you ride the NYC subway or bus, and you tap your phone or card to pay, you are using the OMNY payment system. OMNY usually charges your card for the fare right away.

Sometimes, OMNY cannot charge your card right away. When that happens, OMNY will try your card again later, and the charge will typically say one of: "MTA NYCT PAYGO RECOVER", "OMNYPYG", or "MTA*NYCT PAYGO".

When a delayed charge occurs, it means that one of these happened:

• The subway turnstile computers were slow or the bus didn't have reception. They let the customer into the subway/bus. OMNY ran the charge on the next day.

• OMNY's bank was slow to respond or was backed up. They let the customer into the subway/bus. OMNY ran the charge later.

• OMNY or the MTA were doing maintenance. They let the customer into the subway/bus. OMNY ran the charge when the maintenance was finished.

OMNY tries to run your charge right when a customer enters the subway or bus. For the reasons above, there might be a delay. Whenever a delay happens OMNY usually runs the charge the next day and puts RECOVER in the transaction description.

The timing of the charges may be confusing, but they are a normal part of how the MTA and OMNY systems operate.
