What about business expenses?
The IRS says that pretax eligible expenses must be for personal expenses.
- Employees using a company credit card cannot use those transactions for pretax spending.
- Employees that are reimbursed by their employer for commuting cannot use those transactions for pretax spending.
These are considered business expenses. See the rules around business expenses here from the IRS.
What if an employee connects a business credit card account to Alice?
There is no rule against using a business credit card with Alice, although some banks may prevent the card from being added. The employee should know which transactions are personal vs. business.
- Employees should only confirm expenses that are eligible and they can reach out to Alice Support with any questions.
- Your business is not responsible for your employees’ pretax spending usage or claims.
- The employee is responsible for only confirming personal expenses that are eligible for commuting to and from work.
