Meta description: Learn why your Alice Card might be declined and follow these simple steps to get your pretax commuter benefits card working again right away. Target keywords: Alice Card declined, commuter card error, Alice Card not working Audience: Employee
Your Alice Card may be declined if you reach your monthly limit, shop at an unapproved store, or have an expired card. You can check your account status instantly through your employee dashboard.
Steps to fix
- Log in to your Alice dashboard to check your available balance.
- Verify that your transit or parking purchase does not exceed the 2026 IRS monthly commuter limit of $340.
- Confirm that you are using the card at an approved transit or parking provider.
- Check the expiration date on the front of your physical Alice Card.
What's going on
The Alice Card is a Visa commercial credit card tied directly to your pretax commuter benefits. It only works at merchants categorized as transit or parking providers, such as local subway systems, bus lines, or public parking lots.
If your card fails, it is usually because the purchase is for an ineligible expense, or you have already spent up to the monthly IRS limit. For 2026, the maximum pretax amount you can spend is $340 per month for transit and $340 per month for parking. Purchases at gas stations, grocery stores, or convenience counters will always be declined.
