Who is eligible for pretax commuter benefits?

Pretax commuter benefits are offered through your employer's payroll. If your employer offers Alice and you spend on parking or mass transit to get to and from work, you can enroll.

Who is eligible

• W-2 employees — yes
• 1099 contractors — no (IRS rules limit pretax commuter benefits to employees)
• S-Corp owners or spouses of S-Corp owners — no

Eligibility is set by federal law (IRC §132(f)), not by Alice. If you are not sure how you are classified by your employer, ask your HR team.

What you can spend pretax on

Eligible expenses are mass transit and parking used to commute to and from work. Gas, tolls, and Uber/Lyft are not eligible (with a narrow exception for qualified vanpool services).
