How much can I spend with commuter benefits?

For the 2026 plan year, the IRS lets you set aside up to $340 per month for mass transit and $340 per month for parking in pretax commuter dollars. That is a combined monthly maximum of $680.

How the limit works each month

You can hit the limit using Alice Card, your personal connected cards, or any combination of the two. As you confirm eligible expenses on a personal card or spend on Alice Card, your remaining monthly room adjusts in real time. Each new calendar month, the room resets to the IRS maximum.

There are no fees and no credit checks for Alice Card. You do not pre-load or pre-pay anything. You only pay for what you actually use, through a pretax deduction on an upcoming paycheck.

Claim dates follow your paycheck, not the purchase date

What counts toward a given month is the paycheck the expense lands on, not the day you tapped your card.

For example, if you ride the subway on January 31st, that ride processes on your first February paycheck and counts toward your February room.

What happens when you hit the cap

Once your combined spending for the month reaches the IRS maximum, Alice Card will stop authorizing new transit or parking purchases in that category until the next month. You can still confirm eligible expenses on a connected personal card, and Alice will run those through payroll in the next available pay period (those amounts will count against the following month's room).

Savings shown or implied — including any reference to "cash back" or take-home pay — are illustrative. Actual savings depend on your tax rate, benefit elections, and eligible spending each pay period. "Cash back" in Alice's materials refers to the federal, state, and FICA payroll taxes you don't pay on eligible commuter spending. It is income tax you keep, not a cash payment from Alice, your employer, or any third party. Alice does not provide cash back, rebates, or any direct financial benefit in connection with the Program.
